Female Suspect Evades Law Enforcement Following High-Velocity Pursuit from Southern California into Mexico

A female individual formerly staying at a women’s sobriety home in California allegedly took a stolen van and engaged in a hours-long law enforcement pursuit ending with her traveling across the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on the start of the week.

Vehicle Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence

As stated in a police statement, a second woman, the owner of the vehicle, forty-five years old, reported that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was missing, along with her vehicle key. Walters, who manages two women’s sober living homes, identified the suspect as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately an hour’s drive of Los Angeles.

“My keys were stolen out of my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up right when it was occurring,” she said, noting that the minivan is designated for the facility’s daily operations.

Dramatic Chase Develops Across Several Regions

Officials tracked the stolen vehicle about 19 kilometers north in a nearby city, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the chase continued into LA County. At that point, local sheriff’s deputies handed over the pursuit to the CHP once the driver merged onto the Interstate 405 heading south.

“This incident is very unique in the sense of the traffic conditions allowing drivers to persist on the highway and prolong this pursuit,” commented a public information officer from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.

Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath

The pursuit eventually reached the international border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to terminate the chase due to jurisdictional constraints.

The vehicle owner stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was located in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was working with the authorities to retrieve it.

“Ultimately, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” she said. “I’m more at ease aware she was not injured. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from substance abuse and emotional distress is often non-linear.

“This is a psychological and substance abuse emergency,” she said. “We need additional assistance. We need more resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” Walters concluded.
